Pangea JSC accepts students of Mining University for internship

On June 22 in the office of PANGEA there was an introductory meeting of the company's management with the students of the geological exploration faculty of St. Petersburg Mining University, studying in the specialty "Seismic Exploration".

First Deputy General Director - Executive Director I.A.Gots told the guys about the history of PANGEA JSC, production activities of the company, regions of presence and, most importantly, about the company's own software product - PANGEA system, an integrated computer system for building geological and geophysical models of oil and gas fields. This is especially important, as this product is currently in demand by oil and gas, service companies, scientific institutes and organizations, taking into account the rapidly developing import substitution program in the Russian Federation due to the global geopolitical situation.

The group of students sent to PANGEA for internship includes 3rd year student Mikhail Pismenskov and 2nd year students Emil Rakhimov and Ekaterina Kirovich. Also, the University of Mines delegated to PANGEA a postgraduate researcher of the Scientific Center "Earth Science" Daria Sekerina, because our company is a reference enterprise for scientific and industrial implementations of the center. Scientific Center "Earth Science" was established in January 2022 on the basis of the Mining University to implement an integrated approach to the study of subsoil. At the moment, the center's activities are aimed at studying and modernizing exploration technologies, developing new approaches to the study of the genesis of various deposits, detailed consideration of thermodynamic processes to assess the impact on climate change.

At the meeting D. Sekerina made a presentation on the topic: "Transformation and classification of potential fields for the formation of predictive criteria". The report expressed the researcher's point of view on the application of a set of transformations and classification of potential fields for the formation of predictive criteria on the example of an area prospective for copper-nickel mineralization of the sulfide type, with the possibility of applying this approach to the search and forecasting of deposits of polymetals and other minerals.

E. Rakhimov made a presentation on "Mapping of underground voids based on the results of engineering seismic exploration". The purpose of the study is to develop a methodology for analyzing seismic data in order to identify underground heterogeneities, or more precisely, voids of different genesis. The student told about the process of seismic data processing, which in general can be divided into three main stages: selection and tracing of a useful signal against the background of other oscillations; study of wave propagation velocities in rocks; construction of time sections. Emil emphasized that at each stage it is necessary to take into account both the physical nature of elastic waves and the peculiarities of the geological structure of the medium in which they propagate. Consideration of the geologic structure is particularly important in the latter stage. This presentation also considered the possibility of using refracted wave seismic to search for underground voids in the upper part of the section. The results of processing of model data of the pilot profile were demonstrated, as well as the results of 3D site processing.

Representatives of the production and cameral block of PANGEA gave an expert assessment of both presentations, wished the guys further success in research activities.
